Dr. Mukul Sarma

Associate Professor | LGBTQIA+ Activist | Linguist

Dr. Mukul Kumar Sarma is a respected academic and LGBTQIA+ activist from Assam, known for his deep engagement with the queer community and human rights issues. Born in Saderi, Pathsala (Barpeta) and currently residing in Japarkuchi, Nalbari, he serves as the Associate Professor and Head, Department of English at Bapuji College, Sarthebari.

He holds a Ph.D. in English Linguistics and Phonetics from CIEFL, Hyderabad (now EFLU), and is widely recognized for his scholarly contributions and progressive voice in education.

Beyond the classroom, Dr. Sarma has worked tirelessly to support and amplify LGBTQIA+ narratives across Assam—through activism, art, and education—making him a prominent figure in both academic and social circles.

In 2023 itself, Dr Sarma’s biography from Satsari magazine was included in MA English syllabus of Sibsagar University, Assam, for its Gender and Sexuality Studies paper.
