Pitambar Studios is an in-house film production company founded by Dr. Mukul Kumar Sarma, driven by a deep love for storytelling and cinematic art. The studio aims to explore narratives that are rooted in culture, identity, and human connection.

🙏 Why the Name "Pitambar"?

The name "Pitambar" is a posthumous tribute to Dr. Sarma’s late father, Pitambar Sarma — honoring his memory, values, and everlasting inspiration behind every story we tell.

🧡 Biography of Hridoy Bhuchitra

Hridoy Bhuchitra is an Assamese biopic based on Dr. Mukul Kr. Sarma’s autobiography Mor Hridoy Bhuchitra–Ejon Xomokami Adhikarkarmir Jeevan Katha, originally serialized in Satsari (Feb–Dec 2023), a UGC care-listed Assamese journal edited by Anuradha Sarma Pujari. The film also draws from the book version, Hridoy Bhuchitra, published by Purbayon Publication, Pvt. Ltd., Guwahati in 2025.

Dr. Sarma has been a prominent queer activist in Assam. Since 2015, he has used his Facebook profile to raise awareness on LGBTQ+ issues, benefitting researchers, activists, and community members. In 2022, as Associate Professor of English at Bapujee College, Sarukshetri, he organized Assam’s first in-person Pride Month seminar, featuring queer activists Milin Dutta, Rituparna Neog, and Shivalal Gautam.

An active contributor to queer discourse, Dr. Sarma has written 60 LGBTQ+ columns and some gay poems in The Assam Tribune and other English and Assamese dailies, Magazines and books since 2013, making him the only regular columnist defending queer rights in its editorial section of The Assam Tribune. His writings have helped eliminate homophobic commentary in the same daily. He has presented 7 seminar papers (4 national, 3 international) and published 7 academic works on LGBTQ+ issues.

Since 2023, he has served as the state resource person for government awareness programs on transgender rights in Assam, India; and currently works with Guwahati-based NGOs Anaajoree and Xomonnoy to promote LGBTQ+ advocacy and education.
